妓女在人类发展历史上可谓久远。在中国，据说三皇五帝时就有妓女，最早的妓女叫洪涯妓。春秋时期齐国的相国管仲就设立了“女市。他在繁华的都城临淄试开了7家官办的“女市”，每一市有“女闾”100人。 宋朝著名词人柳永的词中，记录了当时青楼的兴旺景象。当时，妓女事业出现艺术化倾向。世代相传，生生不息。
